Summer is here – a time to entertain, have fun and make the most of this season with friends and family. In your rental apartment, you can host a poolside party, barbecue dinner or a small gathering of friends for your party room.
It is recommended you speak with your apartment rental manager about the guidelines for hosting events in your building. Find out what you need to know and do before you go ahead with your party. Safety while having fun with everyone is very important to keep in mind.
Regardless of the type of party you are having – it will ignite noise and loudness. Think of it in this way: if you are the neighbour- what considerations would you appreciate people having for you when throwing a party? Often the number one answer is: like to be informed.
Here are a few tips on hosting a fun and safe party:
Start here - let your neighbors know about it ahead of time, and the day and time it is expected to end. Let them know if it gets too noisy for them to let you know, or perhaps even invite them.
If you have an apartment balcony – lay out the rules for those who smoke.
Barbecuing on the balcony or in a common area. Most apartment buildings have their own set of rules and guidelines These guidelines usually meet some type of safety standard for you and your neighbours, so please abide by what the property managers tell you.
Now, if you host an early afternoon party and it includes children – ensure there are no chairs in on your apartment balcony or things where they can climb up on. Children and balconies is an area of highly recommended supervised by an adult or two.
Poolside fun can be enjoyed safely by making sure you and your kids follow the rules of swimming safety. Invite friends over for swim and potluck dinner celebration in your rental unit

Many apartment building owners, including one of our Certified Rental Building Program members, Timbercreek, welcome new residents with lovely house warming baskets often assembled by charitable organizations. This is a fabulous way to welcome you to your new apartment home while at the same time gives back to a local community organization.
