Fall Rental Apartment Cleaning

Posted by Ted Whitehead on Mon, Aug 29, 2011

With summer months coming to an end we can expect to see many changes in our daily lives. Children are preparing to go back to school, University students are moving into dorms, or apartments and the shift of warm weather turns into cooler autumn temperatures.

As fall arrives, activities begin to transfer from the outdoors into the indoors. Preparing your rental apartment with the seasonal changes is just one of the ways to enjoy the transition. We can take this on with a few small tips including fall cleaning, switching from air conditioning to heating and ensuring your apartment is dust free.

Temperature Change

As the temperature fluctuates during the fall season, extra blankets or throws left on the couch come in handy for the cool evenings for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own rental unit. You also want to make sure that your heating system is working well and there are not any problems. Property managers schedule regular maintenance for seasonal changes. You can learn more from your building management. Checking your heating system in the fall is important to ensure that you access the heat required in the winter months. If there is any problems with your heating system, contact your property manager to fix these issues as early as possible to avoid waiting until the winter months - when you will need the heat the most.

Fall Clean up

You’ve heard of spring cleaning, right? Well, now that you will be spending more and more time indoors than out, it is important to give your apartment a good fall clean up too!

Put away any extra summer clothing into storage to free up closet space for warm sweaters and layering pieces. Clearing out summer items such as umbrellas and beach balls, will make way for fall boots and jackets in that crowded front hall closet. Making sure you vacuum around any doors and windows that have accumulated dust from the doors and windows being open throughout summer. This will help eliminate allergies and odours. Fall is the time for dust, mold and ragweed allergies to start up. Getting all that summer dust out of the apartment can help calm down any allergy symptoms that might arise during this time of year. .

There are a lot of little things you can do around the apartment to help control allergies during fall. For example, avoid spending long periods of time outside during peak pollen hours (10 am to 4 pm). Having an air filteration system in the apartment, and getting a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter are also some actions you can take to minimize discomfort while remaining indoors. Keeping doors and windows closed will help limit the amount of pollen from entering into the apartment. Once the pollen limit is low you can vacuum and dust away any pollen that might have gotten in. Vacuuming and dusting regularly will also help control the moisture level within the apartment. This is key in stopping the growth of mold and mildew.

Having your apartment organized and ready for fall will make it an easy transition for getting the children back into their school schedule.
