Grande Prairie is located in Northwestern Alberta, in the heart of the Peace Region. It is the largest city North of Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city. It is a thriving young city full of continuous growth and opportunity.

Public Transit

Grande Prairie has a multitude of public transportation options including bus, charter, school bus services, and new VIA on-demand services.

Via Grande Prairie is Grand Prairie’s new on-demand, shared transportation service. Think of it as a minibus that comes when you want, where you want. The trips are available for booking during regular transit hours and use a shuttle bus service to take you on the most direct route.

This shared ride service is being offered as a convenient and innovative way to keep our community connected with neighbourhoods that are better served by on-demand transit than fixed route transit.

Weather

In Grande Prairie, the summers are long, comfortable, and partly cloudy and the winters are frigid, snowy, and mostly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 0°F to 75°F and is rarely below -25°F or above 85°F.

Health Care

AHS operates three facilities in Grande Prairie. The regional Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Hospital in Grande Prairie is an acute care facility with 24-hour emergency services. It has an intensive care and neonatal intensive care unit that provides trauma care to patients from several communities in the surrounding area. The new hospital has been completed and is scheduled to open in 2021.

AHS also provides home care, physical and occupational therapy, audiology and social services out of QEII Mackenzie Place and the Virene Building. In addition, residents can access community healthcare, immunization, and laboratory services at the GPRC College and Community Health Centre.
